DLP! NEW CHANGES

A lot has changed since DLP came out.
Example:

52” DLP
Weight 120 lbs
Bulb 120 w standard Price $229.00 to $249.00 and did not last long.
1080I
3 color

60” DLP
(They don’t make a 52” anymore)
Weight 55 lbs
Bulb 180 w Turbolight bulb price down to $99.00 and now last between 5,000 to 6,000 hours, ( about 3 1/2 to 4 years)
1080P
6 color, (in Mitsubishi only)

As with cars, planes, etc., things get better. I have seen more changes in the last 4 years of DLP than in television since 1936. Let’s get rid of the Fiction & Fact of DLP.

FICTION: The consumer cannot change the bulb.
FACT: It takes less than 3 min. to change it and for the first time in history you have a brand new TV. All other TV’s just degenerates. My Mom had a 5 year old CRT. I sent her a new one and she said it was like going from B & W to color. If anyone says they have a 12 year old TV and the color is like the day they bought it is like telling me they have a 12 year old car and it’s like new. You just adjust to degradation everyday.

FICTION: Bulbs die quickly and cost over $229.00
FACT: Bulbs now last about 5,000 to 6,000 hours (about 3 1/2 to 4 years). The bulbs are now 180w turbolights, (Mitsubishi only) instead of 120w standard and cost about $99.00, so a better viewing angle and brighter.

FICTION: You can get a burn-in on DLP.
FACT: On CRT’s &  Plasma’s you can get burn-in but DLP is mercury based so you cannot.

FICTION: With  DLP’s you can get motion blur in fast moving scenes.
FACT: The mirrors on DLP toggle about 5,000 per second, thus being about 200 times faster than LCD”s.

FICTION: You can get a rainbow effect on DLP.
FACT: When the DLP first came out,  the color wheel spun about 6,400 rpm, now they spin about 10,200 rpm.

FICTION: DLP’s use more power than Plamsa or LCD.
FACT:  DLP’s, (per size) use about 1/2 the electricity of a  LCD and 1/3 the electricity of a Plasma.

FICTION: Colors fade in DLP.
FACT: Since you are bouncing light off mirrors the colors NEVER fade. Like ALL other TV’s like LCD or Plasma, CRT’s, (old picture tubes), that’s why ALL NEW movie theaters use DLP. What’s good for Speilburg should be good for you!

FICTION: Bigger means heavier.
FACT: A 65” DLP weighs 73 lbs, A 65” LCD weighs about 249 lbs and a 63” Plasma weighs about 310 lbs.

FICTION: DLP is old tech.
FACT: DLP is about 6 years old. LCD is about 34 years old, remember the old LCD clock? They just could not make LCD TV’s as big as they do today. Plasma was developed in 1978, just not for the consumer.

FICTION: Plasma’s and LCD’s save space in your home.
FACT: Over 90% of people that hang a Plasma or LCD either hang them on the wall or put them on a stand. They put their electronics, ( DVD, VCR, Cable or Satellite box), on a 19” deep or more stand. A 65” DLP is only 15” in depth, so why do people spend more money to get less quality. I need to be blunt here. Being a former U.S. Marine I hope people can handle the truth. Three reasons, fashionable, cute, & hype of a thin panel. 36 years ago I sold the big back 25” consoles and not 1 person said I can’t handle the depth. I did have 2 people that asked me if you have to have electricity to power a TV because they did not have electricity in their house yet.

FICTION: DLP’s cost more.
FACT: A 65” DLP is about $1,500.00, a 65” LCD with 120hz is about $5,000.00 and a Plasma 63” is about $3,000.00
