DIFFERENT KINDS OF TV’S
DIFFERENT KINDS OF TV’S All right let’s clear this up once and for all. There are very few TVs left out there. If your TV has RCA Jacks, (much less S-Video or Component Video) and a Television Tuner then you have a Monitor/Receiver. A straight Monitor means it has no tuner at all in it. For the sake of these articles and for the thousands of times in the store when I try to explain this the customer thinks that a Monitor/Receiver goes on a Computer, let’s just call them TV’s, Okay? For the sake of these articles also I will refer to KIND’S OF TV’S as the product and the TYPE’S OF TV’S as the reception capabilities. One further thing, these PROFESSIONAL OPTION’S that I will be giving are from over 32 years in the trenches, (selling electronics in stores), and other information that I have gathered from manufactures, technicians, designer’s, and engineer’s. These sections are to try to help the lay person, NOT for the wacko techno geeks that seem to plague the internet because they figured out how to push the button to turn on a computer. I have devoted my adult life to helping the Consumer and am not impressed with how much a company spends in advertising money. YES! This web-site is brought to you from the good old USA and as a former United States Marine and born in the US I can still say what I believe in. Now that I have that off me chest and the lawyers have no qualms with the 1st amendment so let’s get going! CRT, (Picture Tube) The picture tube has been around even longer than me. The first television transmission was in Germany in 1936. Not much has changed until the invention of the flat screen which for the first time you can get corner-to-corner focus and less glare on the screen. They are now hard of not impossible to find every things going to flat. Most of the CRT’s were also Analog and Feb 2009 will only be able to be used with a converter box if you only use an indoor or outside antenna LCD, (Liquid Crystal Display) LCD TV’s are thin and come in many sizes from about 1.2” hand held, (about $49.99), to currently a 65” Sharp, (about $6,000.00). Unlike Plasma TV’s they are not as temperature sensitive and are not altitude sensitive. If you have a lot of light in the room LCD’s also have a non reflective coating so they do not have as much glare on them as a Plasma. They are not as subject to a burn in as a Plasma so they work better as a Computer Monitor. The only thing NOT going for an LCD is the bigger you go the bigger the price jump size for size with the plasma. My picks for LCD’s in order would be Mitsubishi, Sharp, Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, Viewsonic, and on down the line. If you are NOT hanging it on the wall, DLP is the best and you can save a lot of money! So check out my info on DLP. Don’t fall for the hype of very thin! To give you an idea you can get a 6 color, (Only one in the world), Mitsubishi DLP 65” for $1,399.00, (at time of this writing), that’s only 14” in depth verses a thin panel LCD 65” for $6,000.00 that is NOT as good as a DLP. Soooo save a lot of money and get a better product !!! If you have small children CLICK HERE! LED LCD TV The newest LCD is LED LCD. Gives you very rich Blacks and the LED should lasts between 2 and 2 1/2 times longer than a regular LCD flat panel. They are only about 1/2” in depth. Costs over $1,000.00 more than a regular LCD.
